We are committed to ensuring that events and programs held throughout the City of Rockingham are able to be enjoyed by all community members, including people with disability.
About our inclusive events and programs
We provide a wide range of activities, events and programs for the community throughout the year, with the aim of ensuring that these are accessible and inclusive for all attendees.
Major community events include the Castaways Sculpture Awards, Christmas Lights Launch, New Year’s Eve, Celebrate Australia Day Celebration, Symphony on the Green and Performance in the Park.
We will continue to expand on the provision of accessible and inclusive event services, including:
- Auslan interpretation
- audio-loops
- tactile tours
- beach matting
- free use of beach wheelchairs and walkers
- accessible viewing areas
- chill out zones
- Sensory-Santa meet and greet (Christmas Lights Launch only)
- social stories
- accessible toilets
- additional ACROD parking close to the event
- noise-cancelling headphones.

City events and programs
International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is an annual United Nations observed day on 3 December that aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
To celebrate IDPWD and the contributions and unique talents of people of with disability, the City hosts a range of activities throughout November and early December each year.
More information will be available on the planned activities for 2026 closer to the date.
City of Rockingham has partnered with Reclink to deliver three, free recreation programs in 2026, aimed at supporting people with disability to have fun, move your body and connect with others.

Castaways Sculpture Awards is an outdoor art exhibition at the Rockingham Foreshore.
Each year, beach matting is provided along the sand to support people with limited mobility to view the exhibition. Beach wheelchairs and walkers are made available at the Information tent throughout the exhibition.
In 2026, Castaways will be running from 24 October to 1 November and community members are welcome to come down to the beach anytime during that period to view the artworks.
People with disability, including those who are blind or vision impaired, along with their friends and family, are invited to attend a Tactile Tour of the Castaways Sculpture Awards where they can touch and interact with selected artworks.

Tours are conducted by DADAA and bookings will open four weeks ahead of the tour dates.
