The Rockingham Arts Centre offers a range of workshops for artists at all skill levels across a wide variety of mediums, techniques and materials. Our workshop program is designed to help artists build skills, knowledge, confidence and create connections to pursue their practice to a high standard while enjoying the process of art making.
Our facilitators are highly skilled and selected for their capacity to communicate and deliver genuine learning experiences.
Workshops for children

Art 4 Kids is for children aged 7-11 years who would love the opportunity to explore art and creativity in a safe and happy environment under the supervision of an experienced art facilitator.

Award winning watercolour portrait artist Sheree Dohnt shares her process and top tips in this workshop to help you gain confidence in painting portraits using watercolour.
Sheree simplifies the process to help students better understand and unlock the secrets she has been perfecting over the years to paint a beautiful face in watercolour. The workshop will begin with a demonstration before students complete their own painting.
Whether you're a beginner, or experienced artist, Sheree will guide you through the process to build your skills, knowledge and confidence in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Join exhibiting artist David Ledger for an intensive class designed to provide students with a comprehensive exploration of oil painting.
Through a combination of guided steps, students will develop and build on fundamental skills of oil painting.
All materials provided materials for participants to finish a still life painting of their own.

Under the instruction of talented artist and facilitator Vanessa Liebenberg students will be focusing on the theme of Flora to explore the use of oil paint as a medium.
Both the theme and medium is important and we will focus on oil paint application, colour mixing, mediums and painted surface preparation, as well as observing nature and translating the form, colour, texture and light onto your artwork surface.
We will be working on primed paper for 3 to 4 sessions and canvas for the remaining sessions.

This informative two-part workshop is led by Sandra Murray, a Perth based independent art curator, consultant and artist mentor. Sandra will advise artists on how to exhibit their work in galleries and tips for making strong applications, and the benefits of being included in an art prize.
Join her discussion on developing exhibition proposals; different ways of exhibiting; ways to present an exhibition and promote it, sourcing funds; and practical tips for approaching galleries and effective strategies for entering art prizes.
This workshop is ideal for new, emerging and mid-career artists, and will include a section on pricing your artwork, essential for all artists.

A unique and creative workshop that invites participants to create a special gift or handmade decoration for the Christmas season.
In this workshop, participants will be inspired by Australian and non-Australian birds to create beautiful Christmas bird collages out of fabric scraps and embellish the birds with simple hand-embroidery using a variety of threads and texture in a 4-5 inch embroidery hoop.

This two-part workshop introduces participants to creating sculptural vessels using paper-mâché pulp. Starting with small bowls or containers as simple armatures, participants will learn how to build basic forms using paper pulp, developing an understanding of structure, balance, and proportion.
The workshop explores surface treatment and embellishment techniques, including texture, pattern, and the addition of mixed materials.
Suitable for beginners, this workshop focuses on accessible processes, creative exploration and the transformation of recycled paper into unique, expressive objects.
