The Castaways Sculpture Awards invites Western Australian artists to showcase their innovation and creativity by creating sculptures made from recycled and repurposed materials. Artists of all levels, both emerging and professional alike, are invited to submit their entries. 

Castaways consists of three exhibitions, the Main Exhibition at Rockingham Foreshore, the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition at the Rockingham Arts Centre and the Schools Exhibition at Rockingham Foreshore, with a total prize pool of $27,000 (non-acquisitive) across ten award categories.

Enter the Main Exhibition

The Main Exhibition features sculptures made from at least 65 per cent recycled materials. 

Selected sculptures will be exhibited along the Rockingham Foreshore.

Enter the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition

The Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition coincides with the Main Exhibition on the Rockingham Foreshore. It celebrates the intricacy of small-scale three-dimensional artworks and will be held at the Rockingham Arts Centre.

Enter the Schools Exhibition

The Castaways Schools Exhibition gives students the opportunity to explore sustainable art and learn how art can convey important messages about sustainability and recycling. Primary and secondary schools within the City of Rockingham are invited to enter.

Works will be exhibited beside the Main Exhibition in Churchill Park.

Castaways Curator Lyn Di Ciero and the City’s structural engineer led an online information session on entering the Main and Maquette Exhibitions. Lyn shared practical tips to help your entry stand out, while our engineer offered friendly, artist-focused guidance on ways to ensure your artwork is safe, stable and exhibition-ready.

We also walked through the updated structural engineering process for 2026, explaining what’s new and how it has been improved from last year to provide clearer support for artists throughout the exhibition process.

Please note that the structural engineering requirements applied only to Main Exhibition entries, not Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition submissions.
