Three household bins with different coloured lids placed on a driveway outside a residential home for collection.

Kerbside waste collection

FOGO is the standard waste collection service in the City of Rockinghm.

FOGO stands for Food Organics, Garden Organics and is an extension to the existing three-bin GO (Garden Organics) service we already have in our City, and will drastically improve our recycling and recovery rates.

Under the FOGO service, food scraps along with your garden waste go into the green-lidded FOGO bin and it is collected weekly.

This service helps us all reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill as the organic FOGO waste is turned into compost, soil conditioner and mulch for reuse.

Many other local governments are also on the FOGO service under the state government’s commitment to support all local governments in the Perth and Peel regions to go FOGO by 2030.

Under FOGO your green-lidded FOGO bin is collected weekly, your red-lidded general waste bin and yellow-lidded recycling bin are collected fortnightly.

The Go FOGO project in 2025 was supported by the Government of Western Australia and the Waste Authority.

How to use the three bin system

Find out how to use your three bin system, including your indoor kitchen caddy.

Bin placementKeep bins at a 50cm distance from other bins, and 1 metre from other objects like fences, trees and cars.

On your bin collection day, place your bins on the kerb by 6am ensuring:

  • the wheels are facing your house
  • the lids are closed
  • each bin weighs no more than 70 kg, and
  • they are a safe distance from other objects.

We know it’s exciting to see your bin being emptied, but please watch from a distance. The lifting machinery is very powerful, and could cause serious injury, so it’s important to stay clear. Our drivers are under strict instructions not to empty the bin if anyone is closer than four metres. Please only retrieve your bin when the truck has moved away.
