Planning for the Rockingham Strategic Centre has evolved over many years. The 2009 Activity Centre Plan established the original vision for the Centre and was followed by a series of Development Policy Plans that provided more detailed planning guidance for specific areas of the Strategic Centre.
Development sectors
- Sector 1:City Centre - Mixed-use commercial, employment and community hub.
- Sector 2:Waterfront Village - Vibrant coastal destination for housing, hospitality and tourism.
- Sector 3: Smart Village - Transit-oriented mixed-use community focused on sustainable urban design.
- Sector 6: Campus - Education, research and innovation precinct.
- Sector 7: Eastern - Medium and higher-density residential neighbourhood.
- Sector 9: Northern Waterfront - Coastal residential area with improved connections to the foreshore and activity centres.
- Sectors 10 & 11: Southern Gateway and Rockingham Station - Transport-connected growth areas supporting residential development and transit-oriented outcomes.
The current Rockingham Strategic Centre Precinct Structure Plan consolidates and updates the strategic planning direction for the Centre. While the Activity Centre Plan and Development Policy Plans have been superseded, they played an important role in shaping the vision, land use planning and development outcomes that continue to influence the Strategic Centre today.
