About Youth Encouragement Grants
Youth Encouragement Grants of up to $600 are available to individuals aged between 12 and 24 to participate in opportunities that facilitate and develop:
- Leadership
- Employability
- Social skills and knowledge
- Learning (educational opportunities outside of usual school options/alternate pathway program/ability to participate in further education)
- Community participation
Funds may not be used for:
- Sporting activities
- Driving lessons and/or driving licence fees
- School / TAFE / university fees (except short courses, academic and leadership programs that are 12 weeks or less)
- Equipment, resources and technology (e.g. text books, laptops / tablets, stationery, mobile data and internet connection)
- Accommodation, uniforms, flights and travel costs
Applicants must not have received:
- A Youth Encouragement Grant in the current financial year
- A Youth Encouragement Grant for the same program in previous years.
Applications must be submitted to the City at least four weeks prior to the program.
Please note: applications will be assessed by City Officers in accordance with relevant City policies, guidelines and processes. The City reserves the right to decline applications, or approve for partial funding. Any decisions made by the City are final.

Application Process

All applications will be submitted online via SmartyGrants. Before you prepare and submit your online application, ensure you have all relevant supporting documents including:
- Details of program, such as:
- cost
- date and time
- organisation details
- contact number
- location of program
- program content or list of objectives
- Proof of age
- Proof or residence
All applications will be submitted online via SmartyGrants through the link below
Once your application has been assessed, you will receive notification of the outcome of the City’s decision within four weeks of when your application has been received in full (i.e. all application questions answered and all supporting documentation received).
A formal letter advising you of the outcome of the City’s decision will be sent to you by email or post.
Successful applicants will receive payment electronically directly into their nominated bank account. Please ensure the bank details provided are correct.
The City will not be held responsible for any delays or errors in payment due to factors out of the City’s control (including but not limited to those resulting from banking industry systems).
We would love to hear how your program experience went. To help us finalise your acquittal, please provide:
- Program documentation - this could be proof of attendance or a certificate.
- Receipt of costings - showing the expenses for your program.
- Photo evidence - for example, a photo taken at the program or a screenshot of any social media posts related to your participation.
Acquittals are submitted through SmartyGrants. You’ll receive an email with a link and instructions on how to complete your acquittal.
