Paint Rockingham REaD
Paint Rockingham REaD is part of the national Paint the Town REaD campaign, which encourages the whole community to read, talk, rhyme and sing with children from birth to help prepare them for school.
Children who are read to regularly in their early years tend to perform better in school. Shared reading not only builds literacy skills but also supports social development, brain growth and a stronger understanding of the world.
The aim is to create a community that celebrates literacy and embraces a love of reading.

How can local businesses and organisations support Paint Rockingham REaD?
- Book Widi the Penguin: Community organisations can invite Widi, the Paint Rockingham REaD mascot, to attend events and promote early literacy. Please read the Safety Guidelines and submit the booking form to rclcontact@rockingham.wa.gov.au.
- Host a book swap box: Local businesses, schools and organisations are invited to host a swap box to help ensure all children have access to books. Swap boxes are currently paused due to COVID-19 restrictions, but you can register your interest by emailing customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au
