Safety Heroes is a fun, safety-focussed early intervention program developed by the City of Rockingham. The program aims to educate Year 1 students and their parents on a variety of safety topics, such as home safety, community safety, emergency services safety, water safety and cyber safety.
The main objectives of the Safety Heroes program is to reinforce key messages regarding:
- safety in and outside the home
- Safe Stranger concepts
- fire safety practices
- call 000 in the event of an emergency
- water safety practices
- cyber safety.
The interactive program allows each unit to be delivered to students as part of the teacher's term planning over four to five 30-50 minute sessions over a two-term period. To support this learning, each student is provided with a passport to complete at home.
Once all the topics have been covered and the passport completed, the students will become Safety Heroes. An assembly can be held where each child will be presented with a Safety Hero certificate and a cape.
